As with all commercial enterprises, Quality Control is a key issue in retaining customer satisfaction and in continual improvement of the product or service. The same applies with archaeological services. In a very competitive market, quality standards and control is a defining element in choosing vendors and services. A quality management system proves that a firm is in control of its records and has methods and operating procedures for every process undertaken. It also ensures that the customer/client is given priority and that they are central to the service and that they receive what they require, for the cost agreed.

In February 2002 ÆGIS ARCHAEOLOGY LIMITED was awarded the internationally recognised quality standard IS.EN.ISO 9001:2000 (cert 2888) and has been independently assessed on various occasions since then to ensure the standard is being maintained.

This award certifies that ÆGIS ARCHAEOLOGY LIMITED has a set of quality procedures and controls in place to ensure that the service it provides to all its customers is to the highest standard possible. The customer is central to ÆGIS and customer satisfaction is crucial to the company’s success.

Due to the quality management system and staff ÆGIS never fails to reach deadlines or bring projects in within budget. It also facilitates essential interaction with the company and its client at all stages through a project. This customer focus (through communication) allows the company to be concentrated on their requirements and needs. A customer feedback program is also in place to allow customers to comment on completion of each project, to allow the company to identify customer’s changing requirements and to make adjustments to procedure where appropriate. The standard is awarded and monitored by an independent body, in this case EQA (Ireland).

ÆGIS ARCHAEOLOGY LIMITED was the first Irish Archaeological Company and one of the first businesses in Ireland to have achieved the ISO 9001:2000 This is, in the main, due to the staff’s commitment to customer satisfaction and the continual improvement approach adopted by the entire team
